(1) Can the Minister advise if the Rottnest Island Authority carry out any background checks on individuals or groups that the Authority are proposing to invite or have invited as their guests to Rottnest Island; and
(a) if, yes, what checks are carried out;
(b) if no, is the Minister considering any changes with the view to ensuring that future Rottnest Island Authority guests are of good character; and
(c) if no, why not?
(2) Does the Rottnest Island Authority take any responsibility for any anti-social behaviour that may be carried out by their invited guest or guests while on Rottnest Island; and
(a) if yes, what action is taken to recoup the costs of repairing any damage that has been caused by any individual or groups that are officially invited guests of the Rottnest Island Authority; and
(b) if no, who incurs the cost of repairing any damage to property that has been caused through anti- social behaviour carried out by an invited guest or guests of the Rottnest Island Authority?
(3) If a resident or Rottnest Island visitor is assaulted by any individual or groups that are on the island specifically as an invited guest or guests of the Rottnest Island Authority, will the Authority help cover any financial loss incurred by the victim of the assault if the assault is proven to have been carried out by an official guest or guests of the Authority, and if no, why not?

(1 a-c) The Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) cannot discriminate against any person or group of people making a booking for the purpose of a recreational visit or stay on Rottnest Island, and has no legislative powers to undertake criminal record checks on visitors. This is consistent with tourism and accommodation providers throughout Western Australia.
(2) The RIA is not liable for the behaviour of any visitors to Rottnest Island, which is consistent with all other tourism destinations in Western Australia.
(a) Not applicable.
(b) If wilful damage to RIA property can be attributed to any visitors to the Island, they will be issued a fine and/or invoiced for damage accordingly.
(3) The RIA is not liable for any financial loss incurred by residents or visitors on Rottnest Island resulting from the actions of other visitors.
