KIMBERLEY CUSTODIAL PLAN - BROOME REGIONAL PRISON
I refer to the 2006-07 budget, which states that planning will continue on the Kimberley custodial plan that will replace Broome Regional Prison, and that significant works will continue to improve the condition of Broome Regional Prison. (1) Given that we are in the last quarter of the financial year, what significant works to date have been completed to improve the condition of Broome Regional Prison? (2) Given that the Kimberley Aboriginal reference group’s recommendations for the Kimberley custodial plan included the closure of Broome Regional Prison, is there an intention to replace the prison at another site. (3) If yes to (2) - (a) what sites have been identified or are under consideration; and (b) what discussions have taken place with the Broome Shire Council about the possible closure of the prison?
