DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE — RESPONSE TO KLEENMAID COLLAPSE
I have a supplementary question. The minister in Victoria is in exactly the same situation as is the minister in Western Australia, as the consumer affairs department in Victoria has its regular phone number. However, because of this situation, it has set up a hotline. Consumers are looking to the minister to publicly say something about the situation. Why has he not done so? Mr T.R. BUSWELL

Again, consumers have access to the support of the consumer protection division of the Department of Commerce. I will get the member information on how many calls have been made to that line and he can look at the sorts of responses that the state is providing. However, I assure the member that that agency of government is a very professionally run department under Anne Driscoll. I think it does a wonderful job of supporting Western Australians. The government and the department are well aware of their responsibilities to support consumers in times such as these.
