DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITIES
— PAUL WHYTE
1417. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I
refer to comments made by the Premier yesterday regarding major corruption
issues uncovered under his government and that there was a report
provided to the last government, apparently, they learnt recently, that
recommended this, and the last government buried it, apparently on the advice
of Mr Paul Whyte.
(1) Who advised the Premier that the
report was buried on the advice of Mr Paul Whyte?
(2) Was the advice verbal or
written?
(3) On what date did the Premier
receive the advice?
(4) If the advice was written, will
the Premier table the advice; and, if not, why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) The existence of this review has been widely known
for several years. It is my understanding that the Treasurer has written to the Leader of the Opposition
requesting access to it. I would encourage the honourable member to impress on
his leader the importance of publicly releasing this review in order to further
the public interest in maintaining a high level of integrity across the public
sector. It would be extremely disappointing if the failure to release this
report publicly led to an environment in which fraudulent behaviour was able to
flourish.
