Given the findings in a November 2008 Traffic Noise Assessment, commissioned by the City of Belmont, that traffic noise levels at properties bordering Tonkin Highway in Redcliffe exceed Western Australian, National and International standards for acceptable day and night noise, I ask -
(1) Will the Minister move immediately to begin works on a noise wall of adequate height, thickness and material along Tonkin Highway, from Towie Street to Klem Avenue, to reduce day and night noise for residents to an acceptable level?
(2) If no to (1), why not?

(1) No.
(2) There is currently no funding available to implement noise mitigation retrospectively.
While development of a management strategy to address noise along the state's extensive road network has commenced, implementation will be progressive over a long term and there are no plans to install noise mitigation measures retrospectively along the existing network until such time as affected locations are prioritised and funding is made available.
Funding for any works is dependent on their priority against all other road projects and the amount of funds available for road projects, with funding directed towards the areas of greatest community benefit.
