MINING — GINGILUP–JASPER
WETLAND SYSTEM
979. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the
Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I refer to the Minister for
Environment's response to my question without notice 857 on 15 August
2019 and the Premier's letter in February 2019 to the D'Entrecasteaux
Coalition.
(1) Given that it
is the government's intention to return the area of reserve 44705 and
the inclusion of lot 100 to the D'Entrecasteaux National Park, will the
government commit to not approving any mining lease applications or exploration
lease applications for this area?
(2) If no, why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for the question.
The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Mines and
Petroleum.
(1) No.
(2) Reserve 44705
is managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions,
which is currently considering reincorporating this and surrounding land back
into D'Entrecasteaux National Park. It would be premature to take any
action in this area until the outcome of the assessment of reinstating that
reserve and lot 100 into D'Entrecasteaux National Park is finalised.
