I refer to a crime forum held in Queens Park on Friday, 13 August that was attended by 13 members of the public, Senator Alan Eggleston, Mr Steve Irons, MP, and Hon Christian Porter, MLA. (1) What was the role of the six police officers present? (2) At whose request were they present and was that request made through the minister’s office? (3) What is the rank of the officers who attended and from which station or district office did the officers come from? (4) How long were those officers at the meeting and what is the estimated salary cost of their attendance? (5) Was the local state member of Parliament invited? (6) How is the deployment of police personnel in this manner consistent with the imperatives of front-line policing? Hon PETER COLLIER

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1)–(6) Western Australia Police advised that two police officers in uniform and two dignitary protection officers were in attendance for operational reasons. The dignitary protection officers remained for the duration of the forum whilst the uniformed officers spent a short time at the venue liaising with the dignitary protection officers before continuing operational and patrolling duties. The police are unable to advise as to whether the local state member of Parliament was invited.
