ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONS —
FUNDING
1255. Hon COLIN HOLT to the Leader of the House representing
the Premier:
I refer to Lotterywest funding for
the RSLWA commemorations.
(1) What was the
funding from Lotterywest to RSLWA for each of 2017–18, 2018–19
and 2019–20?
(2) Does the government intend to
continue funding for 2020–21; and, if yes, how much?
(3) Is the Premier aware of the $25 000 shortfall in
funding for the Albany Anzac commemorations; and, if yes , will the
government make a local commitment to the good people of Albany so that the
commemorations are properly funded?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) In 2017–18,
$1 177 098 was provided; in 2018–19, $5 414 802 was provided; and in
2019–20, $964 244 was provided.
(2) Due to the
cancellation of events as a result of COVID-19, $671 854 from the 2020 Anzac
Day grant funding is now redirected to the 2021 Anzac Day event. Other funding
is yet to be determined.
(3) Lotterywest
does not provide grant funding directly to individual sub-branches of the RSL.
Funding for Anzac commemorations is made directly to RSLWA and it is the
responsibility of RSLWA to use these funds for the funding of individual
commemorations.
With respect to funding for the Anzac
commemorations in Albany, I am aware that in 2020, Albany RSL requested $103 088
and was granted $70 000. This was the highest request and allocation in the
state by a long way. By way of comparison, the next highest was Rockingham RSL,
at $25 000.
