Western Australia Police does not employ apprentices but does have trainees under a number of programs.
(a) Nil
(b) 31 - Police Cadet Trainees
14 - School Based Trainees
9 - Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Adult Trainees
(c) Yes
(d) WA Police is currently funded to maintain 40 Cadet Trainees per annum, over the forward estimates. Therefore an increase of 9 Police Cadets will occur in February/March 2009.
WA Police will commence 9 Aboriginal School Based Trainees in the Pilbara District Police Stations in Term One 2009. These positions are fully funded by DET through Group Traineeship Provider SMYL.
(e)&(i) Potential expansion of Aboriginal School Based Traineeship is likely into the metropolitan area and does not require WA Police funding due to full funding from DET as part of the Aboriginal School Based Traineeship Program.
(f)&(i) Currently no other funds have been allocated against these programs, other than for
Police Cadet Trainees.
