Mr. Kirkup questions the Premier about donations received by the Labor Party from the Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation, suggesting they are 'ill-gotten' and demanding their return. The Premier deflects, stating donations are a party matter and referencing the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs' statement on Aboriginal self-determination.

BUURABALAYJI THALANYJI ABORIGINAL CORPORATION —MATTHEW SLACK —
LABOR PARTY DONATION
70. Mr Z.R.F. KIRKUP to the Premier:
On behalf of the member for
Churchlands, I would like to welcome the boys from Hale School who are in the
public gallery today.
My question to the Premier is: it
has been almost a week since the member for North West Central raised this
issue, and now the Premier has had 24 hours to reflect on his answer about the
Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation. Will he now show some real
leadership and demand that his party returns his ill-gotten political
donations?

I
answered these questions yesterday. Donations are a matter for the party. As
the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs said,
Aboriginal people can engage in self-determination and make their own
decisions, which they have done. We do not have a view that somehow we
should discriminate, depending on whether someone is Aboriginal or
non-Aboriginal.
Mr V.A. Catania interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for North
West Central.
