PAYROLL TAX THRESHOLD
I refer to the Small Business Development Corporation submission in August 2006 to the state tax review where it argued that the payroll tax threshold should be increased from $750 000 to $1 million due to the excessive cost and compliance issues impacting upon small business. (1) Does the minister agree with the SBDC? (2) Given that the Treasurer has repeatedly refused to make any changes to payroll tax, what action has she personally taken to support small business and to cut payroll tax? Ms M.M. QUIRK

I thank the member for her question and welcome her back. (1)-(2) In a buoyant economy, turnover for all businesses - small, medium and large - increases and that means that the payroll tax revenue is also similarly increased. That issue is constantly put to me by small businesses, one which I advocate on their behalf to government in the appropriate forums.
