COCKBURN CEMENT REFINERY EMISSIONS —RESIDENTS’ HEALTH
I have a supplementary question. As a doctor, the minister would be aware of the hazardous effects lime emissions and cement dust can have on people’s health. Will he commit to investigating this matter and reporting back to the house on the outcome? Dr K.D. HAMES

There is a process for doing this. There is a unit within the health department that investigates such matters. If residents, or the member himself, make a complaint about the case, the health department will automatically investigate it. That is the standard practice. As I have said to the member already, now that he has raised this issue with me, if there is some contact for evidence or people who are prepared to come forward and give their names, the health department will automatically investigate it and take proper action.
