Hon Nick Goiran questions the Minister for Health Infrastructure regarding the tabling of documents related to a reported radioactive water leak at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in March 2023, following an unsatisfactory response to a previous question. The Minister responds by stating the relevant document was released via FOI and assures the public of the hospital's safety.

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital—Radioactive leakage
507. Hon Nick Goiran to
the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Health Infrastructure:
I refer to the
minister's response to my question without notice 481 on 12 August 2025 in
which he did not answer whether he would table documents associated with the
incident in March 2023, which has been publicly reported as the leakage of
radioactive water.
(1) Has the minister determined that the release
of those documents is not in the public interest?
(2) If no to (1), will the minister now table the
requested documents?
(3) If no to (2), will the minister undertake to
comply with section 82 of the Financial Management
Act 2006 and give notice of his decision to the Auditor General?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1)–(3) The document available was
released through a freedom-of-information process. The Department of Health
advises that the leak occurred in a pipe within the sub-basement of the
hospital. The sub-basement is not accessed by patients and is accessible only to
technical staff. A physicist in nuclear medicine confirmed that there was no
issue before remedial works were undertaken. The hospital is fully accredited
and safe and provides care for more than half a million people annually.
