I refer to the press release dated, 18 December 2009, from Kate Lamont, Chairman of Tourism Western Australia regarding the strategic review of the Agency’s role in developing the State’s tourism industry, and I ask -
(1) What recommendations have been made to the Minister by the Board of Tourism WA as a result of its strategic review?
(2) How many of the 22 key recommendations made by the Tourism Council of WA, outlined in the results of their 16 September 2009 Tourism Industry Leadership Forum, have been adopted by the Board of Tourism WA in the strategic review?
(3) Does the Board of Tourism WA support the Tourism Council of WA recommendation that the, ‘Tourism portfolio should rest with the Premier or a Senior Minister who can devote 100% of their time to it’?
(4) Does the Board of Tourism WA support the Tourism Council of WA recommendations that outline the need for substantial structural changes to Tourism WA and the establishment of a new statutory authority to undertake industry development?
(5) What will be the cost to the Western Australian taxpayer of implementing the recommendations that have arisen from the strategic review?
(6) Will the Government propose any amendments to the
Western Australian Tourism Commission Act 1983
as a result of the strategic review?
(7) Does the Minister support the Board’s recommendations as outlined in the strategic review?
(8) If yes to (7), what additional funding is the Government planning to commit to the implementation of the recommendations as outlined in the strategic review?
