BROOME HEALTH CAMPUS —
CATARACT SURGERY
1254. Hon KEN BASTON to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
(1) Can the
minister please advise how long a person residing in Broome who requires
cataract surgery can expect to wait for the procedure to be performed at Broome
Health Campus?
(2) If a Kimberley
resident in need of cataract surgery wished to have the cataract surgery
performed privately in Perth, would the patient be eligible for the patient
assisted travel scheme?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. I am advised of the following.
(1) The median wait time to have
this procedure done in Broome is 139 days.
(2) Yes. If a Kimberley
resident was unable to access cataract surgery locally and in the time frame
specified by the referring doctor, they would be eligible to receive patient
assisted travel scheme assistance to receive cataract surgery by either a public
or a private ophthalmologist in Perth.
