Will the minister please advise the House what progress has been made by the Water and Rivers Commission in locating an alternative practical source of potable water for Kununurra to replace the existing bore field? Hon TOM STEPHENS

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Minister for the Environment has provided the following response - The identification of an alternative suitable source of drinking water is not the function of the Water and Rivers Commission, although it has provided advice on a number of proposed alternatives in its drinking water source protection plan, which was released in September 2003. Consultants for LandCorp have developed a proposed drilling and investigation program of these alternative sources, with considerable input from the commission. If the member wants to know more about the alternative source, I suggest he direct his question to the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure.
