Main Roads WA advises:
(1) Fibre optic backbone communication cables have been installed on the following roads in 2010/11:
? Reid Highway between Mitchell Freeway and Tonkin Highway
? Tonkin Highway between Reid Highway and Walter Road East
? Roe Highway between Great Northern Highway and Orrong Road, except for Great Eastern Highway and Roe Highway Interchange
All sections were installed in the ground in 2010/11 but will be commissioned in 2011/12.
(2) Fibre optic backbone communication cables are planned to be installed on the following roads in 2011/12:
? Roe Highway between Kwinana Freeway and Orrong Road
? Tonkin Highway between Walter Road East and Great Eastern Highway
? Great Eastern Highway between Tonkin Highway and Graham Farmer Freeway.
(3) It is not possible to specify the percentage of ITS that has been implemented because more ITS components will be required in the future as the amount of traffic on the road network increases.
(4) ITS will continue to be implemented on the road network as traffic volumes increase in order to improve operation and safety.
(5) As explained in (4) ITS will continue to be implemented on the road network as traffic volumes increase.
