COLLEGE GROVE LAND CLEARANCE
I refer to LandCorp’s proposed clearing of a 3.7 hectare nature corridor at College Grove near Bunbury that comprises rare tuart forest and is home to native species including the endangered ringtail possum, and I ask — (1) Has LandCorp sought the approval of the Minister for the Environment or the Department of Environment and Conservation for this proposed clearing? (2) If no to (1), why not? (3) Can the minister please table any clearing or other permits obtained by LandCorp for the clearing of this site? (4) When is LandCorp intending to commence clearing this site? Hon SALLY TALBOT

I thank Hon Paul Llewellyn for some notice of this question. The Minister for the Environment has provided an answer in the following terms — (1)-(2) The alignment of the regional open space boundary at College Grove was part of the Environmental Protection Authority’s formal assessment of the greater Bunbury region scheme pursuant to division 3, part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986. The Environmental Protection Authority’s report in bulletin 1108 of 2003 and appeals on the greater Bunbury region scheme were considered by the Minister for the Environment before determining the final alignment of the regional open space boundary at College Grove in October 2005. The final alignment increased the area of regional open space and the amount of remnant vegetation that would be reserved. No further approvals by the minister or the Department of Environment and Conservation are required. (3) Not applicable. (4) This is a matter for LandCorp to determine.
