The Swan-Guildford Historical Society (SGHS) has recently written to the Minister and other stakeholders requesting assistance to display their collection which has recently been assessed as being of national importance. In relation to this, I ask:
(a) what assistance can the State Government provide for SGHS to house and display its collection; and
(b) what assistance will the Government provide to SGHS before September 2012 in order for it to successfully host the Royal Western Australian Historical Society Inc. State History Conference of Affiliated Societies?

The Swan-Guildford Historical Society has written to me attaching correspondence sent to the City of Swan regarding the housing of Society's collection within the Guildford historic precinct.
(a-b) The Culture and Arts portfolio does not have any buildings within the Guildford historic precinct or elsewhere to support the housing and display of this collection.
The Western Australian Museum has had an ongoing relationship with the Swan-Guildford Historical Society through the Museum Assistance Program since 1984. Museum staff met with Historical Society and City of Swan representatives on 9 August to discuss the care of the collection.
The State Library of Western Australia's Battye Historian can also offer general advice on how to house and display the collection to a preservation standard.
There are a number of organisations that provide funding support to heritage projects including LotteryWest; Midland Redevelopment Authority; and the National Library of Australia's Community Heritage Grants scheme which aims to preserve and provide access to nationally significant Australian cultural heritage material held by community groups.
