BUILDING AND
CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY — SUPPLY CHAIN
1168. Hon SOPHIA MOERMOND to the Minister for Commerce:
I refer to the ongoing supply chain
crisis in the construction industry in Western Australia.
(1) Is the
minister aware of the financial challenges faced by small and medium-sized
building companies and the families for whom they are building homes?
(2) Has the
minister seen and heard media reports that some builders are being forced to
sell family assets to keep trading?
(3) Has the
minister met with the Home Builders Action Group; and, if yes, can the minister
inform the house of the outcome of those discussions?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) I do indeed acknowledge the challenges faced by
the building and construction industry and people building their new
homes. I meet with a range of industry stakeholders on a regular basis. I have
met with the Home Builders Action Group, I have asked the agency to meet with
it as well, and I have committed to the Home Builders Action Group to continue
to engage with it.
