I refer to the two press releases from Kate Lamont, Chairman of Tourism Western Australia dated, 18 December 2009 and 15 January 2010, regarding the Board’s strategic review of the Agency’s role in developing the State’s tourism industry, the removal of Richard Muirhead as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the announcement of Stephanie Buckland as interim CEO, and I ask -
(1) Will the Minister provide details of the outcomes of the strategic review as endorsed by outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Muirhead?
(2) Did outgoing CEO Richard Muirhead make any criticisms of any of the outcomes of the strategic review?
(3) If yes to (2), what were those criticisms?
(4) How will the outcomes of the review effect the operations of Tourism WA over the next six months?
(5) Is the placement of Stephanie Buckland as interim CEO of Tourism WA, who was previously the Executive Director Marketing and has a total of only two years experience working in the tourism industry, an indication that the Government plans to strip the Agency of its Industry Development division and make it solely a tourism marketing board?
(6) If yes to (5), will the Government be announcing a new tourism Department, or a new statutory authority to coordinate the development and growth of the State’s $7 billion tourism industry that provides our community with over 80 000 jobs?
(7) If no to (6), does the Government plan to sideline tourism and make the industry’s development and growth a second tier responsibility within another Government Department?
