PARKFIELD
PRIMARY SCHOOL AND KINGSTON PRIMARY SCHOOL — FUNDING
1002. Hon ADELE FARINA to the Minister for Education:
I refer to the Minister for Education's answer to
question on notice 410.
(1) The
Minister for Education's answer to my question states that Kingston
Primary School will suffer a reduction of 3.83 full-time equivalent teacher
positions and 2.19 full-time equivalent teacher assistant positions, yet in
response to question without notice 931, asked by Hon Sally Talbot, MLC, the
answer given was 4.6 FTE and 2.2 FTE, respectively. Which answer is correct?
(2) The
minister's answer to my question states that Parkfield Primary School
will lose 0.24 FTE teacher positions, yet in response to question without
notice 931 asked by Hon Sally Talbot, the answer given was a loss of 0.75 FTE.
Which answer is correct?
(3) Can the
minister please explain why there is such a discrepancy between the answers to
me and Hon Sally Talbot, which were provided only two days apart?
(4) Will the
minister confirm that the rest of the information provided in answer to my
question on notice 410 regarding a further 38 schools in my electorate is
correct?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) Both responses were
correct at the time of answering.
Hon Adele Farina : They were two days apart.
Hon PETER COLLIER : I will give the member a response
and then she will understand.
Council question on notice 410 was
based on the most current data already in the system on 30 October 2013.
Question without notice 931 was based on updated data provided into the system
after recalculation on 31 October 2013. The data will continue to be updated
and actual changes will not be confirmed until after the student census on 14 September
2014.
(4) Yes; refer to the previous response.
I take this opportunity to
explain, because it is relevant, that student numbers and staff allocations
alter on a day-to-day basis. They are things that come in daily. There are over
260 000 students and 21 000 teachers; those numbers change on a day-to-day
basis. That is what the Department of Education does; so, yes, the answers will
be different. I always qualify that in any response I give. In this instance,
the figures given were based on different days. The member will find that will
continue until the census in February 2014 when the final numbers will be
allocated. I have said that consistently.
