ability to investigate councils and ask: (a) Can
the department also investigate the conduct of council
chief executive officers: (i) If
not, why not; (ii) If
not, will the Minister consider adding these powers
in the overhaul of the Local Government
Act 1995 : (A) If
not, why not; and (iii) Have there been submissions made in the second phase review of the Local Government Act for the Minister to have the provision to remove a council chief executive similar to the new powers to remove councillors ?

(a) Yes, but only under the provisions of an Authorised Inquiry.
The conduct of council Chief Executive Officer can also come under scrutiny by the Public Sector Commission and the CCC.
(i-ii) Not applicable.
(iii) To date, a significant number of submissions to the Local Government Act review have been received. The contents of those submissions will be reviewed following the closure of the public submission period on 31 March 2019.
