FIREARMS — LICENSING AND REGISTRY SYSTEM
1467. Hon RICK MAZZA to the
Attorney General representing the Minister for Police:
On 21 April 2015, the minister advised that a new licensing
and registry system for firearms licensing, which includes other police
licensing functions, would be completed in November 2015.
(1) Has the new system been completed?
(2) Is it operational?
(3) If no to (2), when will it be operational?
(4) How will it improve and streamline the processing of
firearms applications?
(5) What is the expected cost saving to firearm applicants
under the new system?

On behalf of the Minister for Police, I thank the honourable
member for some notice of this question.
(1)–(2) No.
(3) It is planned to be completed and operational in 2016.
(4) The
licensing and registry system will include a heightened supervisory capacity
that will provide efficiencies around the allocation and assessment of firearm
licence applications, which will streamline the application process.
(5) The intent
of the licensing and registry system is to increase data integrity and improve
the firearm application process.
