PUBLIC TRUSTEE —
FEES
516. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the Public Trustee
funding model.
(1) Notwithstanding
the historical reasons for the current funding model, will the Attorney General
commit to funding the Public Trustee from consolidated revenue and abolish the
self-funding model?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) If yes to (1), when will the
self-funding model be abolished?
(4) Is the Attorney General aware of any other
government body that deals with vulnerable Western Australians that
operates under a self-funding model; and, if so, provide a list of such?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. I note it was asked last week, so that might provide context
for what I am about to say.
(1)–(4) This
week, the Attorney General announced $13 million towards fee relief for
vulnerable clients of the Public Trustee while a Department of Treasury review
is ongoing. The Department of Treasury is undertaking a review of the Public
Trustee's fees and self-funding model, including accountability and
transparency mechanisms, which will be finalised later this year.
