Given that postnatal depression affects around 15 percent of new mothers, their babies and
spouses in Western Australia, I ask -
(1) What strategies does the Minister have to address postnatal depression in new mothers?
(2) Is the Minister aware that the Chairman of ‘Beyondblue’ (part funded by the State Government), proposed to establish early screening programs to detect the condition?
(3) Does the 2006-2007 budget propose to fund such programs?
(4) Has there been any estimate made of the additional referral and support services that would be needed to cope with the extra requirements that are likely to flow from such a screening program?
