WORKERS' ACCOMMODATION — KALBARRI
491. Ms M. BEARD to the Minister for Lands:
I
refer to the status of the Labor government's long-promised multi-user
workforce accommodation facility in Kalbarri.
(1) When did the
state government first become aware that its preferred proponent, Petra Westkey
Modular Housing, had suspended operations in Western Australia, with its office
closed and all contact directed to a Malaysian phone number?
(2) Why has the
minister not disclosed this significant setback to the Kalbarri community,
which has been waiting on this promised development for a prolonged number of
years?

(1)–(2) I
thank the member for her question. We have been very clear about these
processes. We made a clear election commitment in relation to Kalbarri and
Exmouth, and that was to deliver land, to make it available and to work with
the relevant local governments. We have done that. That was the clear election
commitment. My agency has worked with proponents through that process. I am yet
to receive the final advice on both of those projects, and when I do, I will
report it to the Parliament.
