ROAD AND RAIL PROJECTS
1025. Ms S.E. WINTON to the Minister for Transport:
On behalf of the member for
Forrestfield, I would like to welcome to the Parliament today members from the
Forrestfield Senior Citizens Travel and Social Club. I hope you are enjoying
your day.
I refer to the McGowan Labor
government's agenda of building job–creating road and rail
projects across Western Australia. Can the
minister update the house on how this government is delivering these economic–boosting projects, including the new Metronet rail lines, such as the extension to
Yanchep, as well as the new roads and upgrades the previous Liberal–National
government neglected to build?

I thank the member for that question
and the positivity about WA that the member for Wanneroo brings to this
chamber. The fact is that we have a program of road upgrades and rail —
Mr D.C. Nalder interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Bateman, I will not warn you again.
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : We have a program
of road upgrades and rail delivery, boosting jobs, boosting confidence, and
driving economic growth in WA, reducing congestion, and making life easier for
families. Over the past year, we have
started a number of new road projects, and of course next year will be just as
exciting for WA. The Yanchep and Thornlie–Cockburn projects are
currently going through a procurement process. The member for Armadale has seen
some of the works being undertaken at Denny Avenue. Planning is underway for
the Morley–Ellenbrook line, and more announcements are to come soon on
that. The railcar program involves 246 railcars, with a minimum local content of 50 per cent. There is the Armadale Road dual
carriageway; the Great Northern Highway upgrades; regional road safety
initiatives across the wheatbelt, the Great Southern and through the Midwest,
and up into the Pilbara and the Kimberley; and the Kwinana Freeway northbound
widening project from Russell Road to Roe Highway.
Mr D.C. Nalder interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Bateman!
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : There is also
Marble Bar Road; the Mitchell Freeway southbound widening project; the Murdoch
Drive connection; the new Lord Street project, which is underway; NorthLink,
which was started by a federal Labor government and we are finishing it —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members! We are
nearly there. Just hold on a bit longer.
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : There is also
the Wanneroo Road project, the duplication projects and the overpasses—and
there is so much more to come, members!
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members on my
right!
Mr D.A. Templeman : More!
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : You said
more! Member for Butler, I will mention the Marmion Road connection. Hopefully,
the City of Wanneroo will build that road very quickly for us. There is also
the Armadale Road–North Lake Road bridge; the Karel Avenue upgrade—the
member for Jandakot is not here today; and the Karratha–Tom Price Road.
There are so many projects, installing confidence in the community, creating
local jobs, and employing local businesses. We have an agenda for
infrastructure and jobs in this state, and we are getting it done.
