SCHOOLS —
SIGNAGE
572. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to the placement of ''Part of the Bigger
Picture'' signs outside schools, such as Wembley Primary School.
(1) How many
WA public schools are currently displaying such signs; are planned to have such
signs; or have had signs which are now removed?
(2) For all
schools in (1), what has been the total production and installation cost of
such signs currently displayed; planned for display; or previously displayed
and now removed?
(3) Are costs
for the production and installation of the signs from the Department of
Education's budget; and, if not, which department is paying for the
costs?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) There are
64. Government agencies and contractors are required to adhere to the ''Signage
Guidelines: Capital Works'' style guide when erecting signs at Western
Australian state government capital works projects. The guide sets out the
criteria that must be followed when installing and designing a sign and can be
downloaded on the Department of Finance's Building Management and Works
website. The cost of signs is included in the building contractor's
contracted price for works; builders own the sign and are required to remove it
upon practical completion.
(2)–(3)
The cost of signs are included in the building contractor's contracted
price for works; it is therefore not possible to determine the cost of each
sign.
