Minister for Culture and the Arts:
I refer to the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries.
(1) When did the
director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia begin negotiating with the
City of Bunbury to transfer funding formerly provided to the Bunbury Regional Arts
Management Board for management of the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries to the
City of Bunbury?
(2) Did the
director inform the Bunbury Regional Arts Management Board that the
negotiations were taking place and that there was a likelihood that the board
would lose its funding?
(3) Has the
decision to de-fund the Bunbury Regional Arts Management Board been formally
communicated to the board?
(4) If yes,
when did that communication take place?
(5) If no to
(3), why not?

director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia has not had any negotiations
with the City of Bunbury to transfer funding. The minister is advised that the
director has requested that the City of Bunbury write formally to the Art
Gallery of Western Australia to advise that it will be taking over the
management of the Bunbury regional art galleries. The state government's
intent is that the resources provided through the Art Gallery of WA are used
effectively to provide the people of the south west region with access to the
visual arts.
