ISLAND COUNTRY CLUB — UPGRADE
432. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the minister representing the
Minister for Tourism:
I refer to the proposed upgrade of Rottnest Island Country
Club and its golf course and the intention to lease the facility to a
commercial operator.
(1) Can the
minister confirm that a development application will be required for the
upgrade after which there will be an appropriate opportunity for public
consultation on the project?
(2) If no to (1), why not?

(1) The Rottnest Island Authority will be following its
development planning guidelines.
(2) The golf
course upgrade is consistent with the ''Rottnest Island Management Plan
2009–2014'', initiative 13, ''Expand Recreational
Activities''. The planning for the golf course was developed in
consultation with the executive of the Rottnest Island Country Club and is seen
as an excellent way of improving visitor numbers to the island in the
off-season.
