National Rugby League—Western Australian licence
36. Mr Peter Rundle to the Premier :
I have a
supplementary question. How much is the Premier willing to spend and what is
the limit?

I think all members
will understand that we will not be writing a blank cheque, and as I have said,
I am certainly not going to talk about the discussions we are currently having.
Obviously, any deal we reach, if there is a deal to be made, will be in the
interests of the WA taxpayer. We know that West Aussies love their sport. We
know that we have got a big supporter base for NRL in Western Australia. We
know that NRL and any national code is a big economic driver. A lot of people
work in it, a lot of visitors come with it and so obviously this is an
opportunity that we will take if it is good value for money. We will continue
to make sure that we defend Western Australia's interests in any discussions we
have with any third party, whether it is a sporting code or any company, or
anyone who is interested in working in WA.
