I refer to the poor state of playground equipment at the Newborough Primary School. (1) Will the Government give a commitment to the proper refurbishment of the playground equipment prior to the end of the school year? (2) If not, why not? Hon BARRY HOUSE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) No. (2) Replacing the playground equipment at Newborough Primary School will cost in the region of $12 000. Funding for this will not be available until after the sale of the Scarborough Senior High School and junior primary school sites. Newborough Primary School may proceed with refurbishing the equipment through the normal process; that is, using minor works funds. In the event that the sale of the land proceeds, the cost of the refurbishment will be reimbursed.
