POLICE SHOOTING — CARLISLE —
ARRESTS
950. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS to the Acting
Minister for Police:
I have a supplementary question. Can
the minister advise this house what offences the officers were under suspicion
of committing in order to justify their arrest under the Criminal Investigation
Act?

AnswerView source ↗

As I said, it is widely accepted—it
has been expressed strongly by the Premier; it has also been expressed by me—that
arrest was not considered to be the most appropriate course of action, albeit
that it might have seemed appropriate to the other investigating police at the
time.
Point of Order
Mrs M.H. ROBERTS : I simply asked
by way of supplementary question what offences the officers were under
suspicion of when they were arrested.
Questions without Notice Resumed
Mr
J.H.D. DAY : As I was saying, the Commissioner of Police has said that there
will be a full review of the situation. I do not have the information with me
in relation to the specific offences that they might have been under suspicion
of committing, but it is probably not too hard for it to be worked out, if the
member thinks about it carefully.
