Once again, this is what we see from
the Liberal Party all of the time. It makes it up as it goes along. In this
case, it is not so much the member for Vasse scurrying out of the chamber and
putting some sort of apocryphal post on social media; this time it is creating
a falsehood out of the answer to a question I gave not 30 seconds earlier. What
hope does the Western Australian public have when it comes to those opposite,
when they are prepared to distort and misrepresent the truth in such a blatant
and dishonest way? It shows how unfit for government the Liberal and National
Parties are. It goes to show. Yesterday, the Minister for Police called out the
behaviour of the Leader of the Opposition for the way he goes about inciting
division and fear, and his disgraceful behaviour around our gun laws, which are
about making people safe.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order!
Mr R.H. COOK : We know that
the National Party is a direct threat to community safety. It opposed the gun
laws and inflames and encourages those who
would seek to undermine them and, in some cases, resort to violence in the community. The National Party cheers them on, providing them with extra grist
to the mill. It encourages and enjoys the growing hatred and division in the
community, fanning that sort of behaviour all of the time. It stokes the fires of division. It is disgusting, and it
does result in acts of potential criminality against members of Parliament.
Point of Order
Mr P.J. RUNDLE : I bring up
standing order 78 again—relevance. The Premier is just straight off on
a totally different subject. The Leader of the Liberal Party's question
was about the fit and proper person test.
The SPEAKER : I am not
upholding your point of order. The Premier is making a relevant analogy.
Questions without Notice Resumed
Mr R.H. COOK : Thank you,
Madam Speaker. I am—it is about the honesty of those opposite.
Today, the Leader of the Liberal
Party, in direct contradiction to an answer to a question that I gave just 30
seconds earlier, has already indicated that she is prepared to misrepresent the
truth outside this place.
Ms L. Mettam interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please.
Mr R.H. COOK : I said that the
fit and proper person test in relation to our industrial relations laws has not
yet been crafted. She immediately—just 30 seconds later—sought
to misrepresent it by comparing it with the fit and proper person test in
relation to tow truck drivers.
Ms L. Mettam interjected.
Mr R.H. COOK : You have been
caught out red-handed! What is extraordinary, Madam Speaker —
Ms L. Mettam interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please!
Mr R.H. COOK : — is
the extraordinary dishonesty of those opposite. When someone calls them out on
this behaviour, they show this concocted outrage. Yesterday, the Leader of the
Opposition, once he was called out by the
Minister for Police for his behaviour and the way that the National Party is
inflaming division in the community , acted as if he had some great
disservice done to him simply because the Minister for Police said, ''Stop
it.'' I say to the Leader of the Liberal Party: stop the Liberal Party
lies and stop the Liberal Party dishonesty. I say to the Leader of the Opposition:
stop the divisions you are creating in the community to increase the hatred
around the gun laws.
Mr S.A. Millman interjected.
The SPEAKER : Just before I give
the call, I have a word of advice for the member for Mount Lawley. You have
made it more difficult for me to see your lips moving; however, I still hear
you interjecting.
