Hon. Ljiljanna Ravlich questions the Minister for Emergency Services regarding the potential imposition of emergency services levies on vessel and motor vehicle owners, as suggested in a concept paper. The Attorney General, representing the Minister, clarifies that the levies were not preferred options and included only for discussion, and no modelling on public impact or Treasury approval was conducted.

EMERGENCY
SERVICES — CONCEPT PAPER
952. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH to
the Attorney General representing the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to page 14 of the concept
paper ''Review of the Emergency Services Acts'', which recently
closed for public submissions.
(1) Given the
Minister for Emergency Services' full endorsement of the paper, does he
also fully endorse the suggestion for the imposition of further taxes and
charges through the collection of an emergency services levy from vessel and
motor vehicle owners?
(2) Although
modelling has been done on the expected revenue of such levies, has modelling
been done on the impact on the public of this charge?
(3) Was this proposal made with the
approval or knowledge of Treasury?
