POLICE — OPERATIONAL SAVINGS — BODY
CAMERAS
529. Mr P.A. KATSAMBANIS to the Minister for Police:
I have a supplementary question.
Will the Commissioner of Police also have to find further operational savings
for stab-proof vests and other personal protective equipment for our frontline
police officers or will the minister fight to get additional funding for that?

AnswerView source ↗

I will fight to get whatever
additional funding we need for the Western Australia Police Force. I will do
that properly as part of the expenditure review process. We only need to read
the Langoulant report to know how the former government operated the state's
finances. We will not be operating the state's finances in the same
way.
Throughout my political career, I have
been a strong advocate for our police officers—the men and women police
officers of our state. I will ensure that they get the equipment they need. I am
the minister who rolled out uniform Glock firearms to the whole police service.
I rolled out tasers and a range of protective equipment. We will do it again.
We will give them the stab-proof vests that the former government did not give
them.
