TIER 3 RAIL LINES — BUSINESS CASES
58. Hon
Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for
Transport:
I refer to my questions without
notice 194, 241, 667, 691, 877 and 976, asked between March and October 2022 in
relation to the Quairading–York, Kulin via Yilliminning to Narrogin,
and Kondinin via Narembeen to West Merredin proposed tier 3 lines.
(1) When will the business cases for
each of these proposed lines be made public?
(2) Which, if any, of the business cases have been
submitted to Infrastructure Australia, and when were they submitted?
(3) Has the minister formally approached the federal
Labor government for financial contributions for these lines?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) The McGowan government is committed to delivering
a $200 million agricultural supply chain improvement program in partnership with the Albanese Labor
government, CBH and Arc Infrastructure. This package includes the $72 million
commitment to work towards the progressive recommissioning of the Narrogin–Kulin
line, which was closed under the Barnett Liberal–National government in
2014. Our government is committed to supporting the best use of public and
private financial resources to ensure that the most cost effective road and
rail network can be provided to handle the growing grain export task. We will
continue to work with the federal government and WA grain industry on rail upgrade
projects that address the greatest needs and provide the greatest benefits.
