SECONDARY FREIGHT NETWORK
PROJECT — WHEATBELT
209. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the announcement last
week that the federal government would contribute $70 million from the roads of
strategic importance initiative to the wheatbelt secondary freight network
project. How much does the state government intend to commit to this important
regional project that supports 42 local governments and a region that generates
a significant proportion of our agricultural product?

I thank the member for that
question. I welcome the federal government's investment in regional
roads. It is something we put on the agenda when we won government, both with
the former federal minister, Darren Chester, and the current minister. I raised
this issue in my meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister last year; I made a commitment
to the group from the wheatbelt that I would raise it directly. I absolutely
support and welcome all the commitments we received last week, and there were a
few. We got the Albany ring-road! That is a very, very exciting project.
Because of our advocacy, because we put it on the agenda, we got the Albany
ring-road.
Mrs L.M. Harvey : Are you
putting any money in?
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : Sorry, did
the member say we had no money in there?
Mrs L.M. Harvey : No, I asked:
''How much are you putting in?''
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : The member
for Scarborough put out a number of tweets. The member for Scarborough said —
Why'd
you secure funding for Albany ring road when the State Labor Government hasn't
given a cent yet?
Tabling of Paper
Mr D.T.
REDMAN : It appears the minister is reading from a book of official
documents and I ask her to table the official documents.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members on my
right, the point of order will be heard in silence. Say it again.
Mr D.T. REDMAN : The minister
had her whole file in her hand and she was reading from what appeared to be
official documents. I ask the minister to table the file, please, in accordance
with the standing orders.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : I can see from
here that it is not an official document. I can see from here it is a copy of
the Twitter feed. The minister is willing to table it if you want to have a look.
It is not an official document.
Mr D.T. REDMAN : The minister had a file in her hand
that she was reading.
The SPEAKER : It is a long
bow.

Ms
R. SAFFIOTI : I urge the member to
follow the member for Scarborough on Twitter; then he will not need me to table the document. She said we allocated not
one cent to the Albany ring-road. I have another official document —the
budget papers—that state we committed $35 million, as we promised.
There are a number of commitments.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members on my
right, your own minister is on her feet!
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : There were a number
of announcements. We are working through our budget process. We are spending a record
amount in regional WA. We are investing in wheatbelt roads. We want to continue
investing to improve road safety. Members will see all the investment when the
budget is released.
