I have regular scheduled meetings with the Director General, Department of Health.
These meetings cover a range of issues including Department of Health service delivery outcomes for the mental health services provided by the Department of Health.
I also meet weekly with the Mental Health Commissioner where I am kept updated on matters relating to service agreements with the Department of Health.
The Mental Health Commission and the Department of Health have been actively negotiating the terms of the 2011/12 Memorandum of Agreement and meet regularly to discuss the service delivery arrangements. Until these negotiations have been finalised, the 2010/11 Memorandum of Agreement remains in place.
I am in regular contact with the Chief Psychiatrist from the Department of Health in relation to his role in the monitoring of standards of psychiatric care.
I have personally visited a number of public mental health facilities since becoming Minister for Mental Health, and intend to continue these visits in the future.
My office is also in regular contact with the Chief Executive Officers and Service Managers across all Area Mental Health Services in the Department of Health.
