On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Transport, I thank the member for some notice of the question. The
following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Transport —
As the member may be aware, there
are continual advances in technology in the bus and automotive industry, from
physical design, size and seating capacities and configurations through to
alternative fuels, drive trains and ancillary equipment such as GPS and
ticketing systems. Any number of these advancements can enhance service
delivery. The Liberal–National government is forward thinking in not
only embracing these types of advancements in our planning, but also adopting
and implementing them. Members may be interested to know that the government is
currently rolling out real-time tracking across our bus fleet. This assists not
only passengers, but also service operators in scheduling and ensuring that
services adhere to service timetables. This efficiency allows operators to plan
with greater certainty service frequencies or headways, which will ultimately
deliver higher quality services to the public.
