MANDURAH
AND YANCHEP RAIL LINES — SERVICE DISRUPTION
1518. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to yesterday's
service interruptions on the Yanchep and Mandurah train lines.
(1) What was the
root cause or root causes of yesterday's extended disruption to
services on these lines and how was the disruption rectified?
(2) If the disruption was of a technical
origin, what is the precise nature of the technical problem?
(3) How many
times this month have services been interrupted, suspended or cancelled on both
these lines?
(4) What were the
causes of these interruptions and are they the same class of technical problem
that compromised yesterday's scheduled services?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) A
track fault caused by works on the Mandurah line resulted in signalling issues
yesterday causing delays during the morning peak on Mandurah and Yanchep lines.
Trains were stopped between Elizabeth Quay and
Cockburn Central from about 10.30 am to 1.00 pm to fix the issue with
replacement bus services running during that time. The issue was
resolved in time for yesterday's afternoon peak, with trains returning
to normal operations. It was not a failure to launch.
