Mark Anthony Jr Unchango—Sexual assault—Post-sentence
supervision order
161. Hon Nick Goiran to
the Leader of the House representing the Premier:
I refer to the
10-year conviction this month of Mark Anthony Jr Unchango for the horrific sex
attack on a woman in her 40s in Whitfords while he was on a post-sentence
supervision order.
(1) Is the Premier aware of the wholly
unsatisfactory responses in both houses last week from the Minister for
Corrective Services and his representative when questioned over the supervision
failure?
(2) Is the
Premier aware that Unchango had two previous convictions for sexually abusing
children?
(3) Will the Premier, on behalf of the
government, formally apologise to the victim for the self-evident supervision
failures that preceded this catastrophic attack on her?
(4) If not to (1), (2) or (3), why not?

I thank the Leader
of the Opposition for some notice of the question. The following response,
which I provide on behalf of the Leader of the House, has been
provided by the Premier.
(1)–(4) The incident in question is distressing.
As the Minister for Corrective Services provided in answers to questions on
this matter, the Department of Justice conducted an internal review of the
matter following this incident and a range of changes have been implemented out
of this review.
