438. Hon RICK MAZZA to the minister representing the
Minister for Environment:
I refer to the
gazettal of an area at Eighty Mile Beach, south of Broome, to establish a
marine park.
(1) What is
the full-time equivalent for staff and officers employed in relation to
protection, administration and management of the marine park?
(2) What is the
annual cost to the Department of Environment Regulation for the accommodation
of the staff and officers employed in relation to the protection,
administration and management of the marine park?
(3) What is the
annual cost to the department for the provision of marine craft used in
relation to the protection, administration and management of the marine park?
(4) What is the
cost to the department for motor vehicles used in relation to the protection,
administration and management of the marine park?
(5) What are the
key performance indicators that will indicate any success of this initiative in
protecting the marine environment?

The allocation of the budget and associated staff arrangements for the Eighty
Mile Beach Marine Park have not been finalised for this financial year as they
are the subject of current negotiations with traditional owners for the
development of an Indigenous land use agreement for the marine park.
(5) Key
performance indicators for the Eighty Mile Beach Marine Park will be contained
within the management plan for the park, which is currently being finalised.
