I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The Minister for Community Development has provided the following response - (1) In the planning for the hostel, the Department for Community Development has taken the lead during a number of meetings with local community members, indigenous organisations and government agencies in Halls Creek. These meetings have occurred over a period of several weeks. A concept has been proposed, predominantly by local community people, for a hostel model in Halls Creek. This concept has been put into a draft proposal and discussed with senior officers from government agencies in Perth. The draft proposal is currently being circulated to elders and community people in Halls Creek for comment and amendment. (2) The Department for Community Development, the Department of Indigenous Affairs, the Department of Health, the Department of Education and Training, the Drug and Alcohol Office and the WA Police have all been part of the consultation process and the subsequent planning that is taking place. (3) The hostel model has not yet been finalised. Decisions on a hostel model being the solution for issues in Halls Creek are yet to be debated. For this reason, a time line has not yet been established.
