❓ Question regarding a potential discrepancy between a statement made by the member for Perth and its subsequent record in Hansard, specifically concerning Mr. McCusker's involvement in writing a speech. The response avoids directly answering the question, instead focusing on the reliability of tape recordings and accusing the questioner of having a fixation.

I ask a supplementary question. Did the member for Perth say last week that Mr McCusker wrote most sections of his speech; and then change it in Hansard to read that he wrote the detailed section of it? Mr J.N. HYDE

At the public hearing yesterday for the Corruption and Crime Commission and the parliamentary inspector, the parliamentary inspector spoke about people listening to tape recordings. He spoke about the psychological condition of displacement. This is when rabid people with fixations believe they hear something on a tape that may or may not be there. They are convinced in their own minds. Because of operational issues, I will not give the member for Nedlands a lecture on the way corruption agencies deal with the accuracy of tapes. I almost hope that this issue goes before the Procedure and Privileges Committee. I hope it holds an open hearing with television cameras. I will have present the member for Mindarie, QC, and we will give the member for Nedlands a lecture. I will call the commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, whose technical views on the issue of what is in a tape or not in a tape are very relevant. Unlike the member for Nedlands, I accept whatever Hansard prints.
