(a-b) The Cook Government launched the Road Smart Kickstart road safety education program as a pilot in 2025, targeting Year 7 and 8.
I was pleased to attend the official launch in June last year and experience this great program for myself, alongside students from the John Calvin school in Albany.
The interactive program uses five gamified learning stations, one of which addresses age-appropriate e-rideable safety. The program was trialled across 31 schools in 2025, reaching 1,690 students through the delivery of 87 sessions. Kickstart was delivered at 16 schools from the beginning of Term 1, 2026 up to 30 March 2026, with bookings made with a further 57 schools as at 17 April.
(c) $15.2 million has been allocated over 2025/26 and 2026/27 to deliver both the Road Smart Kickstart program and the Year 9 Road Smart Interactive program.
(d) 13 FTE are dedicated to delivering the two Road Smart programs as at 30 March 2026, with active recruitment to support the statewide rollout of the programs continuing.
(e) Program effectiveness is assessed through student-reported knowledge, attitudes, and behavioural intent, including willingness to change road safety behaviour. Additional indicators measuring program delivery include school reach and participation rates, facilitator performance, and teacher feedback.
(f) Program effectiveness metrics as at 17 April 2026, based on 772 student survey responses, are as follows
