I refer to the minister’s announcement about the Perry Lakes resumption plan. (1) Does the proposed legislation require the state government to resume the land at Perry Lakes? (2) If so, will compensation be paid at the time of resumption? (3) How much land will be resumed? (4) How many building lots will be included in the development? (5) How much money will the government have to provide up-front to build these sporting facilities? Ms A.J.G. MacTIERNAN

I thank the member for the question. If I may, I will run through them as I have recorded them. (1)-(5) The government will be introducing legislation and, although it is obviously dependent on the engagement of the Legislative Council, we will hopefully get that legislation through. The legislation that we propose to introduce will allow the resumption of both the AK Reserve and the Perry Lakes site. We will be compensating the Town of Cambridge for the reserve.. It is anticipated that we will pay compensation up-front for the AK Reserve. What we are proposing to do for the Perry Lakes stadium is to give effect, really, to the agreement that we had in place with the Town of Cambridge in 2002, so that the Town of Cambridge could obtain all the benefit from the development and the sale of the Perry Lakes land, net the cost of the development of the basketball and rugby stadiums and of 52 per cent of the athletic stadium. The land will be developed by LandCorp. It will project manage the development. All developer profit will remain with the Town of Cambridge. In the spirit of the agreement, the money will be placed in a trust fund and will be payable to the Town of Cambridge for the benefit of all residents at the conclusion of the process. The government is hopeful that the facilities will be completed by the end of 2008. At that point, the government will be in a position to return the trust funds to the Town of Cambridge.
