MINISTER
FOR FINANCE — METIER
1417. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
Leader of the House representing the Minister for Finance:
I refer to the Minister for Finance's
answer yesterday that the Minister for Finance's investment in Metier
Asia is a passive investment and that the minister has no input or insight into
the management and functions of the business, and, further, that the Minister
for Finance is not aware of the day-to-day activities of Metier Asia Pty Ltd.
(1) How does the minister reconcile
his answer with —
(a) his advice to journalists on
Monday that —
(i) the first deal Metier Asia is looking at is in
Malaysia, not China; and
(ii) an element
of the minister's proposed trip to China in July was going down to have
a look at what Metier Asia was trying to do; and
(b) arranging for
the chief executive officer of Metier Asia to meet with the Chinese consul
general?
(2) Was anyone
associated with Metier Asia or Sunheat Holdings Pty Ltd expected to accompany
the minister on the section of his proposed trip to China in July to have a
look at what Metier Asia was trying to do?
(3) If yes to (2), who was it and
what was their role?
