Frontline policing is undertaken by Regional WA, Metropolitan Regions, Traffic and Operations, Specialist Crime, Counter Terrorism and State Intelligence. These portfolios comprise of 461 individual Stations, Sections, Squads and units which are monitored and regularly reviewed to ensure the best possible service delivery. The following general information is provided:
The Regions have a total of 14 Districts which each include:
· Police Stations - provide a general policing service to each sub-district
· Traffic Offices - manage traffic related issues for the sub-district
· Detectives Offices - investigate serious crime in each sub-district
· A number of support units which provide intelligence gathering, prosecuting, alcohol & drug management and forensic investigation services.
The Traffic and Operations Portfolio Divisions manage on a whole of agency basis:
· Property Management - evidence, found and stolen property, seized vehicles
· State Traffic Enforcement - highway patrols, breath and drug buses and speed camera operators
· Communications - Police Communications and Police Assistance Centre and Infringement Processing
· Specialist Units - Water Police, Air Wing, Mounted Squad and Dog Squad
· Prosecuting - centralised prosecuting services
· Forensic - crime scene investigation, ballistics, fingerprint collection and examination, document examination, imaging and photography.
The Specialist Crime Portfolio Divisions manage on a whole of agency basis:
· Commercial Crime - major fraud, computer crime and precious commodities
· Major Crime - major criminal offences & coronial inquiries
· Organised Crime - gang related crime, motor squad, proceeds of crime
· Licensing Enforcement - licenses for firearms, liquor regulators, security officers and second hand dealers
· Sex Crime - sexual assault, family violence, child interviews, cyber predator and ANCOR
· District Services - arson investigation and regional response investigation units.
The Counter Terrorism Portfolio manages all State Security, Dignitary Protection and Emergency Management and Tactical Response issues.
